Hill Voice, 20 April 2021, Bandarban: Two members of the Mog Liberation Party, one of which also an Awami League union president, have been arrested with arms at an army and police checkpost in Kuhalong union of Bandarban Sadar upazila under Bandarban Hill District. Army and police personnel reportedly recovered country-made guns and ammunition, along with mobile phones and money from them.
The detainees are Mog Liberation Party Collector (fundraiser) Mong Aching Marma (52) and Mog Party member as well as Union Committee President of Awami League of Gaindya Union of Rajsthali Upazila under Rangamati district Haising Mong Marma alias Kala Marma (40). Both are said to be residents of Taitang Para village in Ward 3 of Gaindya Union in Rajasthali.
According to the concerned sources, on the night of April 19, 2021, the two members of the Mog Party left Rajasthali for Bandarban on a motorcycle. At around 3:30 pm, as they were crossing the Dolupara checkpost in Kuhalong Union of Bandarban, army and police personnel told them to stop to check. But when they did not stop and tried to drive the motorcycle speedily, they fell on the road with the motorcycle. The army and police arrested them and seized a country-made gun, four rounds of cartridge, two mobile phones and Taka 6,200 in cash from them.
It is learnt that during the interrogation of the two detainees, they claimed to the police that they were members of the Mog Liberation Party.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station Md. Shahidul Islam said a case has been filed against the two detainees under Section 19 of the Arms Act of 1878 and further legal action will be taken in this regard.
It may be mentioned that the people have long complained that the local administration and the local ruling party Awami League are providing support and shelter to the terrorists of the Mog Liberation Party based in Rajasthali of Rangamati.
