Hill Voice, 24 February 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that Bangladesh Army arrested three innocent Jumma villagers of Jurachari Union area of Jurachari upazila under Rangamati district and took them to the camp and conducted a harassing search at the house of one Jumma of same upazila. However, the detainees were reportedly released separately today.
According to local sources, on February 23, 2021, late night at around 2:30 am a team of army and police personnel led by Lt. Col. Md. Akhtaruzzaman Faisal PSC, Commander of Banyogichara Army Zone of Ronoturjyo 7 Bengal of Army of Jangarachi Upazila numbering 80-90 surrounded the village of Kathaltali of Jurachari union. At this time an atmosphere of fear was created among the people of the village. After that, the army took three villagers named (1) Binoy Chakma (30), son of Punya Kumar Chakma, (2) Mortas Chakma (40), son of Hengotte Chakma and (3) Gunomni Chakma Paju (60), son of Malachan Chakma of Kathaltali village waking up them from sleep to the newly established Lulangchari army camp and detained them there.
It is learnt that the army took two persons named Chikan Marat Chakma, son of Kalicharan Chakma and Biswajit Chakma, son of Karnamoy Chakma with them as their guide during the night.
On the other hand, on 19 February 2021 at abou 9:00 pm a group of army of about 15 men led by a captain from the Shilchari army camp under the Jurachari army zone conducted a massive search at the house of Chanchal Kumar Chakma, president of the Maidang union committee of the Jana Sanghati Samiti, at Pancharimukh Para village in the adjoining Maidung union. Chanchal Kumar Chakma was not at home at that time. However, the army harassed the people of the house in various ways and instructed the family members to ensure Chanchal Kumar Chakma’s visit to the camp tomorrow.
However, it has been reported that the army released Gunomoni Chakma Paju among the detainees at around 12:30 pm today and but handed over Binoy Chakma to the Jurachari police. Later at about 5:00 pm the Jurachari police released Binoy Chakma as well. Another detainee Morotsaw Chakma was also reportedly released.
