Hill Voice, 30 December 2020, Khagrachari: An innocent Jumma named Sushanta Chakma (27), son of late Purna Banshi Chakma was allegedly beaten and then demanded 20,000 Tk as extortion by army-backed UPDF (Democratic) terrorists in Bhaibonchara area of Khagrachari Sadar upazila under Khagrachari Hill District.
It is learnt that the incident took place on December 27, 2020 in Dewan Para area of Bhaibonchara Union.
According to locals, on 27 December 2020 around 12:30 pm, army-backed UPDF (Democratic) armed terrorists called Sushanta Chakma to meet one of armed cadre Dipan Alo Chakma going to Dewan Para. After receiving the message Sushanta Chakma went to meet Dipan Alo and however he was interrogated by another armed cadre named Jewel Chakma. At one stage, the terrorists tied Sushanta Chakma’s hands and feet and beat him severely and then demanded Tk 20,000 as extortion.
The reporter was informed that the army-backed terrorists had threatened to kill Sushanta Chakma if the demanded money was not paid by December 30.
Sushanta Chakma is a CNG driver by profession. He runs his family by running CNG. His home is in Giriful area of Perachara union.
