A Tripura Jum farmer beaten up by pro-Prasit UPDF

Hill Voice, 25 April 2025, Rangamati: On 23 April 2025, at around 4 pm, an innocent Jum farmer named Bhuvanmoy Tripura (40), father: Alin Tripura, mother: Kotendri Tripura, was beaten up by an armed group of UPDF led by Prasit Khisa in Notun Para, 9 Number area of Sajek Union, Baghaichari Upazila, Rangamati district.

According to local sources, a few months ago, an armed group of the UPDF (pro-Prasit) stationed there banned Jum cultivation, the only source of economic survival for the local villagers. Later, the locals, including the village’s Karbari, negotiated with the commander of the UPDF armed group and obtained permission to cultivate Jum.

Yesterday (April 24), like other Jum farmers, Bhuvanmoy Tripura went to Jum with his wife and children. At around 4 pm, another armed group of UPDF arrived there and sending Bhuvanmoy Tripura’s wife and children home, kept him alone with there.

Then, the armed group of the pro-Prasit UPDF took Bhuvanmoy away and severely beat him. As a result of the beating, Bhuvanmoy Tripura suffered injuries in various parts of his body.

A resident of the village, who did not want to be named, said, “It can never be a good thing to beat people like this. Such injustice needs to be stopped.”
