Army operation in Reingkhong again, 3 arrested in Thanchi

Hill Voice, 21 April 2025, Special Correspondent: The army operation is underway in the Reingkhong area of Baratholi Union of Bilaichhari Upazila of Rangamati district. At least 200 army personnel have participated in this operation. This is the second military operation within two months after such a massive operation in Reingkhong last February.

According to local sources, a group of 110 army personnel led by 34 Bir Zone Commander Lt. Col. Md. Alam from Ruma Garrison in Bandarban conducted a patrol operation in Tiger Para of Baratholi Union last Saturday (April 19).

Then on Sunday (April 20), another group of army comprising 50 personnel carried out patrolling at Salang Mukh area of Barathali Union. On the other hand, another group from Rowangchari conducted patrolling in Boirakyachari and Mitingyachari.

The army propagated that this operation is being carried out against the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), also known as the Bawm Party. However, the army has not arrested anyone or searched houses until the writing of this report.

On the other hand, since last Saturday (April 19), a group of soldiers from Alikadam Cantonment in Bandarban district has started an operation in Remakri Union of Thanchi Upazila. It is reported that three people, including the chairman of Remakri Union, Muishothui Marma, were arrested in this operation.

It is reported that the army stationed in Narikel Para of Remakri Union digging bunkers. And last Sunday (April 20) evening, another group of army members from Alikadam Cantonment reached Remakri Union in 6 vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that a massive military operation has been carried out in the Reingkhong Valley of Baratholi Union for about two weeks since February 24. At least four to five hundred army personnel from Ruma Cantonment, Bandarban Zone and Bilaichari Zone participated in the operation. The operation was conducted from Ruma Garrison under the command of Ruma Zone Commander Lt. Col. Alamgir Hossain.
