Hill Voice, 23 September 2020, Rangamati: A Muslim settler has been accused of illegally constructing houses on 5.0 acres of land belonging to a Jumma villager in Longadu upazila of Rangamati district.
According to local sources, for a long time now, a settler named Md. Bachar, son of Md. Abul Kalam of Bhaibonchhara Guchhgram of Langadu Union has been illegally hatching conspirarcy to occupy 5.0 acres of land settled in the name of Rangachan Chakma, son of late Bonna Chakma of Galachhari village of Longadu mouza.
Recently Md. Bachar built a house of on the said land secretly. After receiving the news, Rangachan Chakma tried to stop him. But at that time, Md. Bachar threatened Rangachan Chakma including filed cases against him and claimed the land as his own.
It is learnt that in 2019, Bame Longadu camp commander and a number of local leaders ordered both sides not to carrying out any activities on this land until the dispute was resolved. But in violation of the instruction, Md. Bachar illegally built a house on the land.
The Bengali settler had once built a house on Rangachan Chakma’s land. Later the house was destroyed by unknown persons in the dark of night, but the settler complained to the Bame Longadu camp commander against the owner of the land. The commander of Bame Longadu sub-zone then ordered the land owner (Rangachan) to pay a fine of Tk. 7,000 to the settler and immediately banned both the parties from taking any work on this land.
In this regard, Rangachan Chakma submitted an application to the Bame Longadu Sub-Zone Commander of army on Wednesday, 23 September 2020, requesting that the land be vacated from occupation of the settler. The camp authority did not take any action till this report is preparing.
