Hill Voice, 8 September 2020, Netrokona: A youth named Nurjamal, 19, was caught red-handed by the locals while trying to rape an indigenous girl in Rangchati Union of Kamalakanda Upazila under Netrokona District.
The locals later handed over the detained youth to the local police.
The attempted rape took place on the night of September 6, 2020. On the same day, the child’s grandmother filed a case against the arrested Nurjamal at the local police station.
The arrested Nurjamal, son of Abdul Hekim of Kalihala village in the upazila, is an autorickshaw driver by profession.
The victim’s grandmother said she left her granddaughter alone at home on Monday night and went to Panchgaon market in case of emergency. On this advantage, Nurjamal entered the house and tried to rape the child. At that time, hearing the screams of the child, the people of the area came to the spot and rescued the girl and detained Nurjamal. After informing the police, the police came to the spot at night and took the detained Nurjamal to the police station.
Sirajul Islam Khan, officer in charge (OC) of Kalmakanda police station said that the locals detained Nurjamal and handed him over to the police. A case has been registered alleging attempted rape during the night. Today (September 8) the child along with the accused will be sent to the court for a statement.
