Massive military operation underway in Reikshyong

Hill Voice, 2 March 2025, Special Correspondent: A massive military operation is underway in Reikshyong Valley under Baratholi Union of Bilaichari Upazila of Rangamati district. At least four to five hundred army personnel from Ruma Cantonment, Bandarban Zone and Bilaichari Zone have participated in the operation. Since last February 24, army personnel have been taking up positions in various places in Reikshyong Valley.

At the same time, on February 24, Ruma Zone Commander Lt. Col. Alamgir Hossain himself left for Tiger Para from Ruma Garrison with 105 soldiers and the next day (February 25) he started for Kaingochara Para. That group is still staying in Kaingochara Para.

At the same time, Ruma Zone’s 2IC Major Sarkar Ahmed left Ruma Zone with a group of 70 personnel on February 26. He is now staying at Bora Chalangchuri Mouth with his group.

Meanwhile, a group of army of 50 personnel from Ramedong Camp on February 24 is currently stationed at the head of Boro Chalangchuri under the command of a Major, and another group of 50 personnel from Ramedong Camp left for Chalangchuri on February 28, and is currently stationed at Choto Chalangchuri.

Another group of army of 80 personnel moved to Bairagychara Para from Bandarban Sadar Zone on February 25 through Paikhyong Para in Rowangchari Upazila. On the same day, another group of army of 60 personnel joined Bairagychara Para from Bandarban Sadar Zone. Currently, those army personnel are stationed at various points in Bairagychara Para and Mitingachari Hills.

The army are prapagating that this operation is being conducted against the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), known as Bawm Party. It is reported that the army arrested two Bawm persons on February 24 at the beginning of the operation. As a result of this operation, extreme panic prevails in the area.

Jumma villagers of various villages including Gangachara Tanchangya Para, Chalchara Marma Para of Barathali Union have been forced to work as porters for the army. As a result, it is reported that the Jum cultivation work of the local Jumma villagers is being disrupted.
