Hill Voice, 12 February 2025, Bandarban: Senior Warrant Officer Md. Al Amin, commander of the Ruma Bazar Army Camp under the Ruma Army Garrison in Ruma Upazila under Bandarban District, has ordered that nothing can be sold or purchased in the market without the permission of the army.
Local sources reported that on February 11, 2025, Army Warrant Officer Md. Al Amin summoned the leaders of the Ruma Bazar Management Committee to the camp and gave this order.
According to the said order, from today (February 12), any indigenous Jumma villager or businessperson of any village of Ruma will have to take permission from the army in advance if they want to buy or sell any product. They will also have to inform the army about what kind of goods they will buy or sell and how much they will buy or sell.
Following the army’s order, members of the Bazar Committee held an emergency meeting at the Mayakunja Rest House in Ruma Sadar around 9 pm yesterday. In the meeting, the leaders discussed the ban on buying and selling goods without the permission of the army and expressed the opinion that the ban would cause great damage to Ruma’s business and trade. They also expressed the opinion that such a ban is a violation of human rights.
In the meeting, it was decided that the leaders of the Bazar Committee would approach the higher authority of the army regarding the matter and demand the lifting of the ban. They said that if the ban was not lifted, they would close the business.
