Hill Voice, 11 May 2020, Rangamati: A case has been registered against 10 people and 3 of them have been arrested in connection with the 9 May attack on Jumma people at Harikaba in Longadu upazila of Rangamati district.
Other accused persons have been asked to surrender in court within the next week. It is also learnt that a decision has been taken to pay compensation to the Jumma victims of the attack.
The decision was taken at an arbitration meeting at the APBN camp at Bhaibonchhara in Longadu on May 10, 2020 Sunday at 10:30 am, local sources said.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Longadu upazila Mainul Abedin, 2IC of Rajanagar army zone Major Hassan, OC of Longadu police station Mohammad Nur, Chairman of Longadu Union Parishad Kolin Mitra Chakma, settler leader Md. Sultan PC, Md. Momin, Member of Ward No. 4 Md. Habib, Panna Picchi, Baibonchhara Market Committee President Md. Nasir, Member of woman reserved seat (Ward No, 4, 5, & 6) Champa Chakma, Member of Ward No. 3 Ajoy Bikash Chakma, former Member Diganta Chakma, Bimal Chandra Karbari, Sonamoy Chakma, Dhanyamoni Chakma and Birendra Chakma were present at the arbitration meeting.
It was further decided at the meeting that the victims of the attack would be compensated Tk 2.75 lakh. The settlers will deposit the money to the Chairman Kolin Mitra Chakma within the next 10 days.
It was guaranteed that such incidents would not happen again in the next one year and it was decided that no settler injured in the attack would be able to file case in connection with this incident.
