Hill Voice, 15 November 2023, Rangamati: It has been reported that timber of the tample and 2 Jumma residents of south Khagrachari village of Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati District have been seized and taken away.
Apart from this, two saw mills established by Jummas also forcefully closed down. Victims are- Umcharan Chakma (70), s/o late Subal Chandra Chakma, address- North Sarwatali and Pulin Chakma (55), s/o Tejendra Chakma, address- do.
On yesterday at 11.00 am , the joint forces and administrative officials from Rangamati raided Baghaichari’s Sarwatali village and seized two saw mills and hundreds of logs of teak, gamari (White teak) and different types of timber set up by Jummas. The timber were belong to the temple and those 2 jummas.
According to the local sources ACF of Chittagong Forest Division, Executive Magistrate of Rangamati Hill District, DGFI representative of Rangamati, 37BGB, AD of Rajnagar Zone Md. Hafizur Rahman, Police, Ansar and VDP members are said to be conducting this activity.
