Hill Voice, 1 May 2023, Rangamati: It is alleged that in Chota Mahilya area of Longadu upazila in Rangamati hill district, the local BGB and police have conspiratorially arrested an innocent Jumma villager and carried out an extensive search of his house.
The arrested villager is Jiban Bikash Chakma (25), son of Sambu Moni Chakma, village- Chota Mahilya of Longadu upazila.
According to local sources, today (May 1, 2023) around 3 pm, a group of BGB personnel of Rajanagar Zone of 37 BGB from Longadu Upazila went to Chota Mahilya village along with some police personnel. Then, they surrounded the house of Sambhu Moni Chakma (60) and searched his house extensively. They searched the house for about half an hour but found nothing. Finding nothing in the house, BGB and police detained the said person and took him to the BGB zone after raising a complain that some marijuana was found in the roof of his latrine. At around 6 pm, BGB personnel handed over him to Longudu police station.
It is learnt that on April 27, 2023, Jiban Bikash Chakma got married and brought his new bride home. But the next day (April 28, 2023) when the news came that his aged grandmother-in-law died, the day after that (April 29, 2023), Jiban went to his father-in-law’s house in Bame Longadu village.
Jiban Bikas Chakma returned home on May 1 after performing the funeral ceremony of his grandmother-in-law. Just after a while of his arrival, BGB and police came and took him away.
It is known from the villagers that Jiban Bikash Chakma is an innocent person. He has a small tea shop in his village.
According to reliable sources of his village, a settler Bengali family from a nearby settlers’ area has been trying to occupy his father’s land for a long time. So, he has had a conflict with the land grabber Bengali settler for long. According to the villagers, the BGB and the police personnel arrested the victim raising completely a fabricated allegation on behalf of the said Bengali settler.
