Hill Voice, 27 February 2023, Dhaka: The Parliamentary Standing Committee has recommended the Ministry to take the opinion of the Legislative Department of the Law Ministry for the formation of separate departments for the ten indigenous communities of the country.
This recommendation was made in the 32nd meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Cultural Affairs held yesterday Sunday (February 26) at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament Building).
According to the source of the meeting, the committee has recommended the Ministry to take the opinion of the Legislative Department of the Ministry of Law to form a separate department for the purpose of improving the quality of life of the ten communities of indigenous peoples of the country, promoting their cultural activities at home and abroad and above all to make the cultural activities more up-to-date and dynamic.
In addition, in the meeting, the committee also advised the ministry to write to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs to take appropriate measures on how to market the products made by the indigenous peoples and how to market them abroad for the purpose of improving the living standards of the hill dwellers.
It is said that committee members State Minister for Culture KM Khalid, Asim Kumar Ukil and Subarna Mostafa participated in the meeting chaired by the committee’s president Simin Hossain Rimi.
