5-day army operation in Ruma, 4 people beaten, a new camp set up

Hill Voice, 16 October 2020, Bandarban: A five-day military operation was reportedly carried out by the army of Ruma garrison at 9 villages including Menron Para, Lenpung Mro Para, Kista Para (Tripura Para), Bishai Para (Tripura Para), Mungoya Para, Ramdu Para, Jigan Para, Eden Para and Kala Para under Remakri Prangsa Union of Ruma Upazila in Bandarban district.

The military operation started on 10 October 2020 and the army returned to the camp on 15 October 2020. This caused massive panic among the people of the area and disrupted the movement of the local people.

According to local sources, during the operation in Shamakhal and Nightong Marma Paras of No. 3 Galengya Union and No. 2 Ruma Union of Ruma Upazila, the army interrogated and beaten up 4 Jumma villagers of Shamakhal Marma Para.

After the operation, the army returned to the barracks on 15 October, but it is learnt that a new camp is being set up at a place called Kista Para.

The camp was set up by occupying land of Lawrence Tripura, son of Lagna Tripura of Kista Para in Ward No. 8 of Galenga Union. It has been alleged that the trees of Laguna Tripura Teak plantation have been cut down to make way for the camp.

Earlier, on 10-12 September 2020, the BGB and the army jointly conducted combing operations in different villages of Ruma upazila of Bandarban district for three consecutive days. During this time, they carried out these operations in Kala Para, Arjun Para, Edenpara, Ramdupara, Adiga Para, Bishai Para, Lahpara, Kista Para, Chungtang Para and Jhigan Para of Ruma upazila.
