4 Jummas including Shambhu Kumar Tanchangya released on bail

Hill Voice, 16 October 2022, Bandarban: Central member of Jana Samhati Samiti Shambhu Kamuar Tanchangya and 3 other innocent villagers arrested in false case from Bandarban are reported to have been released on bail recently.

On October 11, 2022, they were released from Bandarban Jail on bail from Bandarban District Judge Court.

Along with Shambhu Kumar Tanchangya who was released from jail, three other villagers are Aungya Marma from Lama upazila, Bhushanjoy Tanchangya from Rowangchari upazila and Rabiday Tanchangya from Alikadam.

It is known that the four people including Shambhu Kumar Tanchangya were arrested by the army on July 4, 2022. The four arrested were earlier implicated in a false case in which an army officer was killed in a shootout with an alleged armed group.

It is to be noted that on February 2, 2022, around 10:30 pm, a gunfight took place between the armed group and the army in Bathi Tripura Para area of Ruma Upazila. In that incident, it is known that Commander Senior Warrant Officer Habibur Rahman of Reingkhyong Lake Army Camp and 2 of his opponents were killed. One army personnel was also seriously injured.

After the incident, on February 10, 2022, Lance Corporal Abdullah Al Mamun of Reingkhyong Lake Army Camp filed a false case against 22 people including members of the Jana Samhati Samiti and 20/25 unidentified people at Ruma police station. Case No. 03, dated 10/02/2022, Section 186/ 332/ 333/ 353/ 307/ 302/ 109/ 34 of the Penal Code. The GR number of the said case is 46/2022.
