Hill Voice, 3 June 2024, Rangamati: Four accused out of the 8 have been arrested in the Baratholi Union Parishad Chairman Atomang Marma murder case of Bilaichari Upazila of Rangamati district.
It has been reported that the police have arrested the accused from a hotel in Reserve Bazar of Rangamati district town at around 1:30 am on Monday morning.
The arrested persons are – (1) Accused No. 4 of the case, Waivar Tripura (50), son of- Bidyaram Tripura, address- Barthali Tripura Para, Ward No. 4, (2) Accused No. 6, Saduchandra Tripura (53), son of- Prabhat Tripura, address- Prangja Tripura para, Ward No. 7; (3) Accused No. 7, Satyachandra Tripura (49), son of- Laksichandra Tripura, address- Pukur Para, Ward No. 6 and (4) Accused No. 8, Sujan Tripura (57), son of- Sugchan Tripura, address- Pukur Para, Ward No. 6.
Arrested Waiver Tripura is known to be the vice-president of Awami League’s Barathali Union Committee and UP ward member of Ward No. 4. On the other hand, Saduchandra Tripura Awami League’s Baratholi Union Committee general secretary, Satya Chandra Tripura Awami League’s Baratholi Union Committee president and Sujan Tripura are reported to be worker of the local Awami League and associate of the Reformist JSS.
According to the case statement, on May 21, 2024, at around 11:30 pm, while Atomong Marma was having a meal at his brother-in-law Chinghla Aung Marma’s (50) platformed (Macha) house, accused No. 1 and 2 were under the platformed house before shooting him.
Doctors removed four bullets from the injured chairman’s body after an operation at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He is said to had been in the ICU there on life-support.
On May 30, at 11:38 p.m., Chairman Atomong Marma breathed his last at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
On May 31, at approximately 8 pm, Kasingmong Marma (61), the victim’s elder brother filed a case naming 8 persons with Bilaichari police station along with 10 to 12 more unknown people. The case was registered under Case No- 01, dated 31/05/2024, falls under Section 302/34 of the Penal Code.
