3 villagers detained, later 2 released by army in Jurachari

Hill Voice, 8 February 2023, Rangamati: It has been alleged that three innocent villagers have been held by a team of Bangladesh Army from Chota Panchari area of Banajogichara union of Jurachari upazila of Rangamati district and detained in an army camp.

The three victims were identified as (1) Subhash Bijay Chakma, son of Ashwini Kumar Chakma, village- Chota Panchari; (2) Amar Bikash Chakma Bhaiye, son of Ashwini Kumar Chakma, Village- Chota Panchari and (3) Mono Chakma, son of Rajani Chakma, son of Aimachara Union, Barkal Upazila.

However, Amar Bikas Chakma and Mono Chakma were released today (February 8) around 10 am after being detained in the camp for about 11 hours. On the other hand, Subhash Bijay Chakma has been handed over to Jurachari police station.

According to local sources, yesterday on February 7, 2023 at around 11:00 PM, a team of the army led by Captain Mosharraf of the Jaksha Bazar army camp under Banjogichara army zone of Jurachari took Subhash Bijay Chakma, Amar Bikash Chakma and Mono Chakma away from Panchari village of Banajogichara Union.

The army then reportedly detained them at the Jaksha Bazar army camp.

It is known that there are several false cases in the name of Subhash Bijay Chakma among those arrested. Subhash Bijay Chakma used to help in the local organizational work of Jana Samhati Samiti. At one stage, when the army’s activity increased in Jurachari area like other areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts, Subhash Bijay Chakma was also implicated in the false cases along with many others.
