Hill Voice, 5 May 2025, Bandarban: Multiple local sources have alleged that an indigenous Khiang woman named Chingma Khiang (29) was gang-raped and murdered by some Bengali labourer in No.8 Ward of Tindu Union of Thanchi Upazila under Bandarban Hill District.
The victim, Chingma Khiang, is said to be the wife of Suman Khiang of Mongkhoy Para village, No.8 Ward of Tindu Union, and the mother of three children.
The brutal incident is reported to have taken place in the forest adjacent to Mongkhoy Para this afternoon (May 5).
According to multiple local sources, Chingma Khiang went to work to the Jum nearby their village at around 7 am this morning, as usual. When she did not return home even though it was already afternoon, her family and villagers became worried and went out to search for Chingma Khiang. At that time, they saw signs of something being dragged in the Jum. After following the signs, Chingma Khiang’s body was found at around 3 pm.
Locals believe that Chingma Khiang was raped and then killed. The body was reportedly found with injury marks, eyes gouged out, and covered in blood.
According to family sources, Chingma Khiang went to work in their own Jum yesterday (May 4). At that time, she saw three Bengali road construction workers on the way. Chingma Khiang returned home early yesterday after being scared by the workers’ looks and expressions. It is reported that she informed her family about the matter. Locals suspect that those Bengali workers committed the incident.
Tindu Union Parishad Chairman Bhagyachandra Tripura said that the incident site is very remote and has no network. Upon receiving the news, he informed the police and said that he left for the spot with them.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jinia Chakma said that a police team is going there after receiving information that a woman’s body was found in the area, about 38 kilometers away from Thanchi Upazila headquarters.
