Hill Voice, 8 February 2025, Bandarban: The 57 battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained 33 Rohingyas including women and children attempting to enter illegally Alikadam of Bandarban.
The detainees were apprehended on Saturday morning (February 8) at around 5:30 AM from the Amtali area of Alikadam Sadar Union. Among the detainees, there were 9 female, 10 male and 14 children. All of them were Rohingyas and citizens of Myanmar.
Local sources said, based on confidential information, the Alikadam Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (57 BGB) conducted a raid in the Amtali area of Alikadam Upazila Sadar. During the operation, they searched the office of the Amtali Ashryon Project and detained a total of 33 Rohingyas including femal, male and children.
According to confidential sources, with the assistance of a Bangladeshi broker network, the Rohingyas were initially brought to the Menla Para area via Pahar Banga Para and Mashi Kum Para paying 8,000 taka per person. From there, they traveled through Sindhu and Nindu Para to reach Poa Muhuri, where they were dressed in clothes similar to those worn by Bangladeshis. Later, they were taken through Poa Muhuri to Naikhyongchari Baisari and then to the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp.
Notably, on 11 November and 11 January of 2024, the Alikadam Upazila administration and law enforcement agencies detained 81 Rohingyas attempting to illegally cross the border points in Poa Muhuri of Kurukpata Union, 58 Rohingyas from the Buchirmukh area of Noapara Union and 30 Rohingyas on Saturday, during three separate operations. In total, law enforcement agencies have detained 172 Rohingyas in three phases from Alikadam.
