Hill Voice, 24 January 2025, Panchari: Two villagers abducted by UPDF armed terrorist group from Dhudukchara under Panchari upazila of Khagrachari district have not been released yet. UPDF is demanding a huge ransom from the families.
It is to be noted that on 8 January 2025, at 7:30 am, two villagers named Sagar Chakma from Hatimara and Nayan Jyoti Chakma from Uttar Dhudukchara in Panchari were abducted at gunpoint by UPDF armed terrorists. Even though almost 16 days have passed including today, UPDF has not yet released the two villagers.
When UPDF was contacted after the kidnapping, UPDF initially denied the kidnapping. But later, when further contacts were made by the local people, UPDF demanded a ransom of 12 lakh taka for the kidnapped Nayan Jyoti Chakma and 6 lakh taka for Sagar Chakma.
Yesterday, Thursday (January 23), Sagar Chakma’s family wanted to pay 1 lakh taka, but UPDF did not accept it and said that they would release him only after paying the full 6 lakh taka.
It is worth mentioning that on 8 January, 20-30 UPDF armed terrorists led by Nicholas Chakma, Pabitra Chakma, Sujoy Chakma, Rabi Chakma, and Apan Chakma entered Dhudukchara village and abducted said two villagers from their homes at gunpoint, tying their hands and feet.
In addition, the UPDF terrorists forcibly snatched mobile phones from 20/30 villagers and threatened them.
Earlier, on 14 December 2024, UPDF armed terrorists abducted two villagers, Udayan Chakma alias Chakka Peda (45) and Tigini Chakma alias Arka Bap (28), from a wedding ceremony in Hatimara, Panchari, after brutally beating them, released them on the condition that they not live in the Dhudukchara area.
