Hill Voice, January 11, 2025, Rangamati: Allegations have been surfaced that members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) surrounded the Barkal Thana branch office of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and conducted searches of its surrounding areas in Barkal Upazila of Rangamati Hill District’s.
Local Hill Voice correspondent reports in the early hours of Friday night (January 10) at around 2:30 AM, the BGB personnel surrounded the PCJSS Thana branch office in Barkal and conducted searches in the vicinity. However, they did not enter the office.
Later, the BGB personnel reportedly patrolled at Babu Para village next to JSS office of Barkal Sadar for a while before returning to their camp around 3:30 AM.
It is worthy to mention that the JSS office has been remained closed for a long time as there is no party activities. Despite this, the office was surrounded and a patrol operation was conducted in its surrounded area, Babu Para village, raising concerns among local residents.
A villager, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that he woke up at night to relieve himself and noticed the BGB personnel patrolling the village. He and his family spent the night in fear and are deeply distressed by the incident.
