Hill Voice, 2 January 2024, Rangamati: It has been alleged that a Jumma woman small trader, a resident of Maidung Union of Jurachari Upazila under Rangamati District, was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members Thursday (January 2) while she went to Barkal Upazila Sadar.
The victim woman trader was identified as Mrs. Pushparani Chakma, w/o Gyanaban Chakma, village-Mandirachara, Ward No. 1, Maidung Union, Jurachhari Upazila.
It is learnt that around 12 noon on Thursday, BGB members arrested Pushparani Chakma while she has taken shark fish, dried fish and 20/30 jackets to Barkal Sadar for sale. Locals said that she often goes to Barkal Sadar, Harina and Thegador areas to do business with various goods.
The BGB alleged that they found some army uniforms in Pushparani’s dried fish sack today.
On the other hand, it was also reported that at around 5 pm on the same day, a 13-member army group led by Subedar Razzak from the Silchari Army Camp under Banjogichara Army Zone in Jurachari conducted a thorough search of the house of said businesswoman in Mandirachara village and harassed family members.
It was learnt that the husband of the businesswoman, Gyanaban Chakma, was not at home during the house search. At that time, the army personnel vandalised the belongings of the house. While leaving, the army instructed the village elders to let Gyanaban Chakma meet them at the camp.
It is known that the BGB members have not released Pushparani Chakma until the writing of this report.
