Army patrol operation, harassment in Jibtali of Rangamati

Hill Voice, October 28, 2024, Rangamati: Allegation of harassment, house searches and belongings vandalization of Jumma villagers were reported

during an army harassing patrol operation in Jibtali Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila under Rangamati district on October 26, 2024.

Local sources said, on the day around 10 am, a military group of 12 personnel led by a subedar from the Gaboghona Army Camp conducted a patrol in the Ogowachari and Perachara Mukh areas of Ward No. 6 of Jibtali Union.

At that time, the soldiers surrounded and searched two Jumma houses and ransacked belongings, and asked various questions for harassment. The two villagers were Athwai Marma (50) son of unknown and Nitai Pru Marma (52) son of unknown.

Following this, the army went to Ogowachari Buddhist temple. Staying for a while there, they moved to Perachara Mukh para. There, they conducted another searches and harassment at a shop of a jumma villager named Chila Pru Marma. Later, patrols were carried out in neighbouring Jumma villages.

Reportedly, the patrol operation and harrasment posed a panic and fear among the local Jumma villagers.
