Hill Voice, 7 September 2024, Rangamati: Union Parishad Chairman Adumong Marma, who was abducted 12 days ago by army-backed Mog Party terrorists from Bangalhalia Union of Rajasthali Upazila of Rangamati District, is yet to be released. Rather, the kidnappers are demanding Tk 1 crore as ransom from the victim’s family, according to reliable sources.
Meanwhile, it is said that the victim’s family members are spending their days in deep worry and anxiety, wondering how to pay so much ransom and whether the abducted chairman Adumong Marma is safe and sound at all.
On the other hand, although the issue of abduction has been repeatedly reported to the Bangalhalia army camp authorities and cooperation has been sought for the release of chairman Adumong Marma, no action has been taken by the army camp authorities yet, according to several local sources.
It is to be noted that Chairman Adumong Marma was abducted by Mog party terrorists on August 25 at around 3 pm.
It is learnt that on that day Chairman Adumong Marma went to Rajasthali to withdraw his allowance. After receiving the allowance, the chairman Adumong Marma was called and told by Sailumong Marma, known as the third-in-command of the Mog Party, to meet him alone at their den in Pawaitu Para as soon as possible. Before going there, the chairman left his allowances in the hands of his assistant Kwashwehla Marma (retired policeman) and proceeded to Pawaitu Para. Chairman Adumong Marma has not returned home since that day. His phone is also switched off. When contacted, Mog Party leaders denied the matter.
It is said that when the family members of the kidnapped Adumong Marma contacted the Mog Party leaders, they demanded Tk 1 crore as ransom.
There have been allegations for a long time that the terrorists of the so-called Marma Nationalist Party (MNP) known as the Mog Party, staying in Rajasthali area with the help and shelter of the army, former CHT minister Bir Bahadur, sometimes former Awami League MP Dipankar Talukder, have been committing various terrorist activities including killing and abduction of the JSS workers and masses involved in the movement for implementation of the CHT Accord.
