A Jumma woman attempted to rape in Naikkyangchari by settler

Hill Voice, 24 August 2024, Bandarban: A married Tanchangya woman (40) from Ward No. 9 in Ghumdhum Union of Naikkyongchari Upazila of Bandarban District has allegedly been attempted to rape.

Yesterday (August 23), Friday, at around 3 pm, the woman was reported to have been attempted to rape by a outsider Bengali settler while she was on her way to Jum (a hilly crop field) from her house.

The name of the outsider settler is Md Faroq (25), son of- Bashar Uddin, Village- Shikdar Bill, Rajapalong Union, Ukhia Upazila, Cox’s Bazar District.

According to local sources, the woman left the house at around 3 pm that day for Jum. When she reached at the place called Balukia Canal, the culprit settler named Md Faroq swooped on her and forcibly touched her breast and tried to rape her. Somehow, the victim ran away from there and took shelter in Manjoy Para and told the the matter to the villagers. Hearing it, the locals rushed to the spot and caught Md. Faroq.

Reportedly, as of writing this report, the alleged rapist Md Faroq has been handed over to the police and a case is expected to be filed today.

It is to be noted that on Thursday, August 22 (2024) a Chakma woman (40) was allegedly attempted to rape by a gang 7/8 of Bengali settlers in Taltali Para area under ​​Ward No. 3 of Patachara Union in Ramgarh Upazila of Khagrachari District. No accused has been reported to have been arrested in this connection.

Besides, yesterday August 23, at around 4 pm, in the one the busiest market of Rangamati city Banarupa Bazar, another Bengali settler named Md. Habibur Rahman (55) was accused of attempting to rape a Jumma student (7) studying in grade two. At first, the rapist falsely introduced himself as Raich Mia. Later his real name was known at the police station after quarries. On that day, locals caught Md. Habibur Rahman and handed him over to the police.
