Hill Voice, November 3, 2023, Rangamati: Under the leadership of a warrant Officer Rabiul from Lulongchari Army Camp under the Banojogichara Zone of Jurachari Upazila in Rangamati Hill District, a group of army numbering 16 personnel conducted a patrolling operation in Puju Adam of Ward No 7 of Jurachari Union on November 2, 2023.
According to local source, Rangamati District Awami League President along with some Awami League leaders are scheduled to visit the place as part of the upcoming election campaign in Kathin chibar dana (Kathina Robe offering) ceremony in the Sublong Shaka Banavihar to be held on November 3 and 4, 2023. The army move is an attempt to serve a motive, to intimidate the local Jumma people, in the name of providing security measures and army presence.
It is also known that two groups of army from different camps, one from Merangchara Army Camp (32 Bir) of Bilaichari Upazila numbering 15 personnel under the leadership of Subedar Karim and the other from Shilchari Army Camp of Jurachari led by a subedar, conducted patrolling converging at Bottuli area (Shilbachya Mon) on 2 November 2023 at 8 am.
It is learnt that this harassing army patrolling panicked the local Jummas. An elderly person not wishing to disclose his name, said it is not the army’s duty to participate in any party’s election campaign. However, the Bangladesh Army intentionally terrifies Jumma people with such routine moves.
