Hill Voice, 2 October 2023, Khagrachari: It is alleged that a Jumma school girl studying in class 7 at Matiranga High School in Babu Para under Matiranga Municipality in Khagrachari district was attempted to sexually harass by a Bengali settler.
It is learnt that the accused Md. Nizam Uddin (36) is the son of Md. Gedu Mian of Nabinagar of No.2 Ward, in Matiranga Sadar under Khagrachari.
As stated by the local source, while the victim was on her way to private tuition to study there, she cried out as Md. Nizam Uddin pulled her by the hand, today (October 2), at 9 am in the morning. As a Tomtom (a vehicle) driver noticed the scene, he informed the people around. Having learnt it, the locals rushed to the spot and caught the culprit, and then tied him to an electric pole after a mass beating.
Afterwards, as the locals informed the administration, the Matiranga Thana Police, the Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Daisy Chakrabarty came there and arranged a mobile court and sentenced the accused to 6 months imprisonment.
In this respect, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Daisy Chakrabarty said, according to section 509 of Penal Code 1860, Nizam Uddin has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for committing the crime of teasing the teenager.
She added that the perpetrator has been sent to Khagrachari Sadar Jail after the end of the mobile court on Monday morning.
