Hill Voice, 21 September 2023, Sylhet: A solidarity gathering and mass procession will be held demanding implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord tomorrow, on 22 September 2023, in Sylhet. A source of the CHT Accord Implementation Movement, the host of the program informed it.
The solidarity gathering is scheduled to be held at the central Shaheed Minar premises of Sylhet city tomorrow at 3 pm. After the mass meeting, a mass procession will be taken out from there. On side of the host, participation in groups with friends in the event and overall cooperation are sought.
It is learnt that eminent human rights activist Sultana Kamal, General Secretary of Bangladesh JASAD Nazmul Haque Pradhan, Joint General Secretary of BASAD Rajekuzzaman Ratan, Executive Director of ALRD Shamsul Huda, Executive President of Sammilito Samajik Andolan and teacher of Dhaka University Professor Rubayet Ferdous, President of Jatiya Shramik Jot Saifuzzaman Badsha, Presidium Member of Communist Party of Bangladesh Shaheen Rahman, Central Polit Bureau Member of Workers Party of Bangladesh Kamrul Ahsan among others will deliver their solidarity speech in the gathering.
Zakir Hossain, joint coordinator of the CHT Accord Implementation Movement and Dhaka University teacher Khairul Islam Chowdhury conveyed a special request through a statement to all the progressive and democratic political parties, intellectuals, cultural personalities and conscious civil society of Sylhet to have their active participation in the solidarity rally and mass procession.
This event would be the fourth divisional gathering of the platform, ‘CHT Accord Implementation Movement’, formed with demand of the full implementation of the CHT Accord.
It is worth-mentioning that the platform, known as ‘CHT Accord Implementation Movement’ consisting of prominent citizens of the country, soon after being formed, organized its first ever mass procession and solidarity rally to demand the full implementation of CHT Accord on December 20, 2022. Later, on January 31, 2023, the first divisional demonstration was organized in Chittagong with the initiative of this civic alliance on the same demand. Afterward, on March 20, 2023, a divisional solidarity gathering was held initiated by this platform to demand the implementation of the CHT Accord and calling upon to build a greater united movement to implement the CHT Accord. At a later date, a discussion meeting was held with its initiative, on the topic “The responsibility and duty of the countrymen to implement the CHT Accord” in the Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall room of the National Press Club on April 8, 2023, in Dhaka.
Last June 5, 2023 at 3 pm, the Mymensingh divisional solidarity rally was held at the Town Hall Advocate Tarek Smriti Auditorium in Mymensingh to demand the implementation of the Hill Accord by the initiative of CHT Accord Implementation Movement and a mass procession was also held after the rally as the latest events of the platform.
