Hill Voice, 26 September 2023, Khagrachari: While the BGB personnel of Pujgang area in Panchari upazila under Khagrachari hill district were snatching money, there had been a clash between BGB and locals. Centring the incident, the Pujgang BGB, on the contrary, filed a case with Panchari Police Station naming 13 persons and accusing some other 500/600 unknown people.
Being the plaintiff, Naik Subedar Md. Mofazzal Hossain of Logang BGB camp filed the case yesterday (25 September 2023), on Monday morning under Sections 147/148/149/332/333/353/379 of Penal Code. Md. Harunur Rashid, Office in charge of Panchari police station confirmed the matter.
Notably, during a search by the BGB at the Logang BGB camp check post, the BGB personnel of the camp snatched Tk. 12 lakh, being sent to repay as loan, by a businessman. As the matter was known to everyone, the residents of the area gathered at the spot and demanded the money back and detainee to be released from the BGB custody. On the contrary, the BGB refused to back the money and tried to hand over the victim to Panchari police station.
At one point, when the BGB insisted to move the money and victim to Panchari police station, the locals blockaded the BGB personnel carrying vehicle at Pujgang Bridge. There, after altercation, a clash broke out between the parties. At that, the BGB personnel got excited and fired 13 rounds of bullets at the locals. A bullet hit one Mikel Chakma (24), s/o Lakshmi Chakma of village-Baburo Para under Logang union on his leg.
Along with the incident, it is reported that one Purna Ratan Chakma (45), s/o Amiyo Chakma from Pujgang union of Panchari was detained by BGB on that day.
