Hill Voice, 8 July 2023, Rangamati: It has been alleged that two innocent Jumma youths including a grade 9 student of Jurachari Upazila Sadar area under Rangamati district were unjustly beaten and harassed by the Bangladesh Army.
It has been reported that this incident took place yesterday (July 7, 2023) around 7 pm.
The victims of beating and harassment were identified as Shanti Chakma (24), son of Marange Chakma and Rubel Chakma (15), son of Shantiraj Chakma. It is said that both of their homes are in Anandapara (Labor Para) village of Jurachari Upazila Sadar area.
According to local sources, around that evening the victims Shanti Chakma and Rubel Chakma went to catch crabs in a stream called Bhadramachara near their village. An army team of 10-15 personnel led by a Warrant Officer of Jakshabazar Army Camp under Banjogichara Army Zone arrived there at around 7:00 PM.
At that time, the army men caught Shanti Chakma and Rubel Chakma who were catching crabs from there to the camp. In the camp, Shanti Chakma and Rubel Chakma were unjustly beaten up by army personnel and harassed by keeping them in temporary detention for about two hours.
Later, when the parents of the two victims and the leaders of the village went to the army camp and requested to release the two innocent youths, the army released them around 9 pm.
