Hill Voice, 6 May 2023, Rangamati: It has been alleged that villagers of 10 Jumma villages of Gangaram area of Sajek Union of Baghaichari Upazila under Rangamati district were ordered to leave their villages by anti-CHT Accord UPDF terrorists.
The UPDF terrorists have also threatened to severely punish the villagers if they do not leave their respective villages within the next two months.
According to local sources, on May 3, 2023, the terrorists of UPDF organized a discussion meeting at a place called Karalyachari in Baghaihat area with the leaders of the said 10 villages of Gangaram area. The UPDF intimidated village elders and forced them to participate in the meeting. Akshay Chakma and Adarsha Chakma, two directors of armed terrorists, were present on behalf of UPDF.
Although nothing specific was discussed in the meeting, the UPDF terrorists ordered the village leaders to vacate the villages within the next two months. Those who disobey this order will be punished severely.
When contacted in this regard, some villagers, who did not wish to be named, said in a tone of regret that they themselves did not know why the UPDF had ordered them to leave the village.
The villagers termed the UPDF’s directive as inhumane. At present, the villagers are said to be in a state of extreme anxiety and panic.
The 10 villages under threat are Thalchara, Uluchari, Galachari, Durchari, Ugudochari, Hajachari, Garamchari, Gachbanchari, Sat Number and Dojri. It is said that 225 families and approximately 1000 villagers are living in the said 10 villages.
