Hill Voice, 25 February 2023, Bandarban: It has been alleged that an indigenous Marma woman was raped in Lama upazila of Bandarban. This incident happened last Friday afternoon in Hargaja area of Fansiakhali Union under Lama Upazila.
The matter came to light when the victim was brought to Lama Hospital on Saturday (February 25) afternoon for treatment.
After first treatment at the Upazila Health Complex, the woman was sent to the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of the District Headquarters Hospital. Medical officer in charge of the emergency department of Lama Hospital Dr. Pratyasha Mallik gave first aid to the victim and asked to take him to Bandarban OCC.
The victim’s uncle told reporters that the niece (victim) went to pick vegetables in the neighboring land on Friday afternoon. During this time, Md. Kaisar (38) grabbed the victim’s face and took her inside the nearby forest and forcibly raped her.
He also said that immediately after the incident when the rapist Kaisar was beaten up by the local people, he was admitted to a private hospital in Chakoria, Cox’s Bazar. Kaisar is said to be the son of Abdullah of Hargaja Futerjhiri area of Fansiakhali Union.
In this regard, Lama Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahidul Islam Chowdhury said that the process of recording a case under the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act is underway, and the culprit will be arrested at any time.
