Hill Voice, 18 May 2022, Pabna: A memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister along with the surrounding of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Pabna district demanding 16 points including constitution recognition as indigenous peoples, fulfillment of promises in the Awami League’s election manifesto regarding the formation of separate ministries and land commissions. The event was organized by the Pabna District Branch of the Jatiya Adivasi Parishad (JAP) on Wednesday, May 18 at 11:00 am.
The human chain and demonstration was presided over by Ramprasad Mahato, Publicity and Publication Secretary of the Central Committee of JAP while moderated by Ashiq Chandra Banias, General Secretary of Pabna District Branch of the JAP.
Among others, Organizing Secretary of Pabna District Branch of JAP Chandi Bagdi, Assistant Organising Secretary Ujjwal Bagdi, President of JAP Ishwardi Upazila Branch Sushanta Mundari and General Secretary Shoilen Bagdi, President of JAP Atgharia Upazila Branch Gaur Bagdi and General Arun Mali, Member of Pabna District Branch of Adivasi Chhatra Parishad and convener of Chatmohar upazila branch Apurba Kumar Singh, member of Pabna district branch Shanta Singh, joint convener of Chatmohar upazila branch Mithu Murari et al addressed at the event.
Solidarity speech was delivered by Pabna District Branch Workers Party President Md. Zakir Hossain and General Secretary of Krishak Sangram Parishad Pabna District Branch Mahfuzur Rahman.
Speakers at the rally said that indigenous peoples should be given constitutional recognition as Adivasi, separate ministries and land commissions for plain land indigenous peoples should be formed, 5 percent special quota for indigenous peoples for higher education and in all government jobs in first and second class.
