Hill Voice, 17 May 2022, Bandarban: A mentally handicapped indigenous Tripura woman was allegedly raped by a miscreant in Bandarban Sadar Union area of Bandarban Sadar Upazila under Bandarban Hill District.
It is learnt that the victim’s husband Guchanda Tripura (50) has lodged a written complaint with the Bandarban Sadar Police Station alleging rape against a person named Farhad Chowdhury on May 16, 2022.
Police arrested the accused Farhad Chowdhury from Balaghata area of Bandarban Sadar on that day evening.
However, the incident of rape took place at around noon on May 14, 2022 in Lemujhirimukh Para village of Ward No. 7 of Bandarban Sadar Union.
The accused Farhad Uddin Chowdhury (29) is a son of Aman Chowdhury of Lemujhirimukh Para of Bandarban Sadar Union.
Regarding the incident, the victim’s husband Guchanda Tripura said, ‘I am an ordinary day laborer. My wife is a mentally handicapped woman. I have a small child. I went to Rowangchari to work. When I went to work on Saturday, the miscreant Farhad Chowdhury broke into my wife’s house and raped her. I came to know about it after returning from work.’
Gunaram Tripura wanted justice for the incident and punishment for the rapist. ‘I want no one to hurt the poor like us by showing power’, he said. I want justice.’
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station Jamir said, ‘I have received a complaint. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken.’
However, later the accused was arrested by police.
