Hill Voice, 22 January 2022, Rangamati: An innocent Jumma youth in Moidung Union under Jurachari upazila of Rangamati district was detained by a group of soldiers from the Shilchhari camp under the control of the army’s Banjogichara zone and was taken to the army campy and released in the afternoon.
The incident took place at 6:10 am on Saturday (January 22).
According to local sources, a group of about 20/25 soldiers led by a Major and Warrant Officer Musa from Shilchhari Camp under Banyogichhara Zone under Jurachhari Upazila conducted an operation in Ward No. 1 of Moidang Union at 6:00 am on Saturday.
At that time, the army surrounded the house of Bhagyadhan Chakma, the organizing secretary of Moidang Union branch of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS). The troop searched the house and ransacked valuables of the house. However, Bhagyadhan Chakma was not at home at that time.
Not finding Bhagyadhan Chakma, the army detained his son Subhash Chakma (22) from his house. Without any charges, the army tied and hanged Subhash Chakma to a tree and beat him inhumanely. After being beaten, he was taken to the camp. Later, when the village elders went to the camp, Subhash Chakma was released from Shilchari camp in their custody.
On the other hand, during the operation, the army also searched the house of president of Ajachari village branch of PCJSS, Sharat Kumar Chakma, son of Satish Chandra Chakma.
