Hill Voice, 2 November 2021, Rangamati: Lalton Pankhoa, 45, a former headman of Chaichal Mouza in Barkal upazila of Rangamati district, who was abducted from a boarding house in Rangamati townm, was shown arrested with weapons from Sayedabad area in Dhaka by the DMP Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) on Sunday night (October 31, 2021).
Along with him 3 more Bengalis were also shown detained as arms dealers. This information was given by Mr. Asaduzzaman, Head of the CTTC, at a press conference held at DMP Media Center on Monday (November 1, 2021) at noon.
The other people who were arrested along with Lalton Pankhoya are: Md. Hossain, a licensed arms dealer in Chittagong; Md. Ali Akbar (55), son of late Forak Ahmed from Raozan and Mr. Adilur Rahman Sujan, son of late Mumtaz Miah of Boalkhali area of Chittagong.
However, 45 days ago, on September 17, 2021, at around 3 o’clock, Lalton Pankhoya was picked up as DB from Shanti Boarding of Reserve Bazar of Rangamati town.
The day after he was picked up, Lalton Pankhoya’s wife lodged a GD with Barkal police station on September 17 (GD No. 629). A national newspaper also reported on his detention. But the police did not show any such activity in rescuing him. His family members were living in anxiety for a long time without any trace.
But yesterday, Monday (November 1), head of the CTTC Md. Asaduzzaman told a news conference at the DMP Media Center that Lalton Pankhoya and others were detained from Sayedabad on Sunday night. In the press conference, Lalton Pankhoya is referred to as an ‘arms smuggler’.
Now the question of the conscious society, where was Lalton Pankhoya kept for so long? Legally, anyone has to be appeared in court within 24 hours of detention. But even though Lalton Pankhoya was taken away 45 days ago, why he has not been handed over to the court so far?
