Hill Voice, 5 October 2021, Khagrachhari: A Jumma villager named Chaithowai Marma (55) was killed by a settler in Master Para area of Ramgarh Upazila Sadar of Khagrachhari. The murder took place on the evening of Tuesday 5 October 2021.
According to local sources, Chaithowai Marma was sitting on the side of the road near his house in Master Para area of Ramgarh upazila headquarters at 6.30 pm on Tuesday. At that time, a settler named Arfin Sharif Patwari (22), son of Abu Ahmed of Masterpara, hit Chaithowai Marma with a brick on the back of his head. When he fell to the ground, the killer hit him on the head with a brick again and again and then poured petrol on him and set him on fire.
At that time, hearing the screams, the people around came forward and rescued Chaithowai Marma and took her to Ramgarh Upazila Hospital in a critical condition. He died at the hospital.
Upazila health complex doctor on duty, Naren Chowdhury, said that 80 percent of Chaithowai Marma’s body was burnt in the fire. There are also signs of injuries on the body.
“Arfin Sharif is our neighbor,” said Aungshiu Marma, the victim’s son. Sharif set fire to our house at 11:30 pm on Monday. I also lodged a written complaint with the police on Tuesday.
The OC said police had arrested Sharif Patwari on charges of involvement in the killings. The body is being sent to Khagrachari for autopsy. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.
