Hill Voice, 9 March 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that two innocent Jummas were detained and tortured by the Bangladesh Army in Maidung Union of Jurachhari Upazila under Rangamati Hill District. This happened today (March 9, 2021) in the morning.
According to local sources, a group of army numbering 25 from the newly established Lulangchhari Army Camp under the Banyogichhara Army Zone in Jurachhari went on patrol in the Beltala area of Maidung Union at around 8:30 am today. At that time, the army first searched and then arrested Shanti Ranjan Chakma (25) son of Chandra Kumar Chakma of Badalhat village and Ranjan Chakma (35) son of Din Mohan Chakma of Rajatal village. During the search, the army did not find anything from the two men but tortured them by tying them to a jackfruit tree.
It is learnt that at that time the two detainees were on their way to Rangamati through in front of the army for treatment. A few days ago, Shanti Ranjan Chakma, who was detained, underwent a stone removal operation in his lower abdomen. When the medicine was over, he was going to Rangamati with that person to fetch the medicine. On the other hand, Ranjan Chakma was also going to Rangamati for medical work.
As of writing this report, the two men detained by the army have not been released.
