Hill Voice, 19 January 2021, Bandarban: An Indigenous Marma woman (23) has been allegedly attempted to rape by a member of army in Rajvila Union of Bandarban Sadar Upazila under Bandarban Hill District.
The incident took place at the Jumma woman’s own house in Tainkhali Bazar Para village on January 18, 2021 at around 1:00 pm. The victim has a two-year-old child. Her husband was not at home at the time of the incident.
According to local sources, for the last one and a half months, a contingent of army numbering about 30 people has been camping at Tainkhali Bazar Government Primary School near Tainkhali Bazar Para village. A member of that army came to the house of the Jumma woman in plain clothe at around 1:00 pm yesterday. At that time, the army member found the Jumma woman alone at home and grabbed her and tried to rape her. As soon as the woman screamed, the nearby villagers rushed to the spot. After seeing the situation, the army member quickly fled to the temporary camp.
According to local sources, today (January 19, 2021) in the morning, people from five nearby villages, including Tainkhali Bazar Para, gathered at the spot to protest against the attempted rape by the army member and demanded exemplary punishment for the guilty army member. In the meantime, various media personnel including various village leaders have been present there.
It is learnt that the army of the said Tainkhali Bazar Government Primary School was earlier in the temporary camp of Noapara Rubber Factory. They come mainly from Dulupara army camp in Kuhalong union.
