Hill Voice, 01 October 2020, Chapainawabganj: Miscreants have beaten up an indigenous woman in Nachole in Chapainawabganj for fishing in a khas pond. At the same time, 60,000 takas and gold ornaments were looted, said Shantana Baski, sister of the victim woman.
The injured woman were identified as Morzina Basarki (45), wife of Logan Tudu of Dharail village in Nejampur union of Nachol upazila. The injured indigenous leader is currently undergoing treatment at Nachol Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty at Nachol Upazila Health Complex said it would take time to heal the head injury.
Shantana Baski (50), sister of the injured indigenous woman leader, has alleged that the government khas pond with Dag No. 355 of 0.51 acre in size in Shampur mouza of Nejampur union in Nachol upazila had been cultivating fish by Shanta Baski taking yearly lease for several years. But fish trader Shahaban Ali (50), son of late Amir Ali of Amanura Colony in Chapainawabganj district, caught fish in the pond at night. After learning about the matter, Shantana Baski lodged a complaint with Nachol police station.
Following complaint, the matter was settled through SI Golam Rasul of Nachol police station. Enraged at this, Shahaban Ali snatched Tk 60,000 and a gold chain at Amanura Dhinagar on 29 September 2020 Tuesday at around 6:00 pm. After the incident, the locals rescued her and rushed her to a local clinic. She was later admitted to Nachol Hospital after his condition deteriorated there.
Her sister Shantana Baski said that the indigenous woman leader did not regain consciousness till 12:30 pm on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday when Morzina Baski, her sister Shantana Baski (50), neighbors Kajali Kisku (48), and Dulali Soren (55) were returning home from a relative’s house in Sabaitara village in a charger van of Md Lalu of Dhingar village. Meanwhile, accused Shahaban Ali could not be contacted.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nachol Police Station Selim Reza said, “I heard the complaint on Tuesday night. Since the scene is under Chapainawabganj police station, thus, it has been suggested to lodge a complaint with the Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station if the injured Morzina Baski is recover. Bidhan Singh, president of the Nachol branch of the Jatiya Adivasi Parishad and president of the Rani Ilamitra Sangsad, has strongly condemned the incident and demanded severe punishment for the terrorist Shahaban.
