Hill Voice, 20 October 2020, Feni: An indigenous Chakma girl (18) who came to Feni from Chittagong Hill Tracts has been reportedly raped twice in one night. Feni police arrested the two men after the girl herself lodged a complaint with the police. The arrested persons are rickshaw puller Md Riaz (26) and saloon shop employee Chhotan Chandra Shil (22).
It is learnt that the incidents took place at the midnight and dawn of 19 October 2020 in the municipality area of Feni. The victim later complained to the police about the rape, which was accepted as a case. Case No. 36/600 of Feni Model Police Station, dated 19/10/2020, Section 9 (3), Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act 2000 (Amendment 2003).
According to the relevant sources, the young woman, a resident of Rangamati Sadar Upazila, got angry with the people of the house and left the house and went to Khagrachhari first. Then on 18 October 2020 he left Khagrachhari for Feni by bus to go to his girlfriend’s house. At around 11:00 pm, she got off the bus at the bus station in Mahipal area of Feni and took a rickshaw to her girlfriend’s house in BSCIC industrial area. One of the young woman’s girlfriends works at the Abul Khair Match Factory in BSIC area in Charipur, Feni.
The rickshaw puller Riaz, turning around different places and saying that they were going to BSCIC, took the girl to a house in Moktar Bari area of Ward No. 12 of Feni Municipal Area and raped her at around 2.30 pm. When the girl started crying, Riaz left the place taking her towards BSC again in the middle of the night. At one stage, the rickshaw puller Riaz left the girl and fled when he reached Kathbella area near Salauddin junction.
Later, at around 3:30 am, Chhotan Shil, an employee of the saloon shop found the girl alone on Road and, saying her to take to her girlfriend, took her to a shop on Fatehpur Road and raped her again.
At one stage, around 4:30 am, when Chhotan Shil took the girl out on the street, they came across the patrolling police. When the police inquired about their movements, the girl informed the police about the rape. The police then arrested Chhotan shil and took him to the police station.
Later, according to the girl’s account, the police raided and arrested another rapist rickshaw driver Riaz.
It is learnt that the rickshaw puller Riaz is the son of Md. Sadeq of Jagbandhu village of Kamalnagar police station in Laxmipur district. At present he lives in Babul Mia Colony in Dewanganj, Feni. On the other hand, the saloon employee Chhotan Shil works in a saloon on Hazari Road, Ward 12, Feni Municipal Area. He is the son of Sameer Chandra Shil of Dharmapur village under Sitakunda police station in Chittagong.
Feni Model Police Station OC (investigation) Omar Haider said the girl’s medical examination was completed on Monday night. He has been kept in safe custody.
