Hill Voice, 4 October 2020, Rangamati: A Jumma college student was reportedly raped by Md. Abdur Rahim, the head master of Karalyachari RS High School in the village of No.1 Atarakchara union of Longadu in Rangamati hill district. The incident took place on September 25.
According to the victim’s sources, the victim went out to find their own goats around 10:00 am on September 25, 2020. After a lot of searching, on the way to back home, she met Md. Abdur Rahim, the headmaster of Karalyachari R S High School near the school. They were well-known to each other as the victim student has passed her SSC from Karalyachari RS High School this year.
Suddenly having met, the headmaster Md. Abdur Rahim took the victim student to the school asking her to take lemons. When the student approached, he took her forcibly to the school hostel and then raped her. At that time, the victim screamed out for help saying ‘please save me’, but the screams did not reach anyone as the doors and windows of the hostel were closed. After rape the teacher said not to inform any one about the incident and threatened to kill if it was disclosed.
Two days after the incident, she informed her family on September 27. Later, the parents of the victim along with the local people’s representative informed Mangal Kanti Chakma, chairman of No. 1 Atarkachhara UP and president of the school management committee about the matter. Later, the victim herself lodged a written complaint to Mangal Kanti Chakma, chairman of Atarkachhara UP and chairman of the school management committee on October 1 seeking justice. In the light of the written complaint, he fixed the date for arbitration on the 6thOctober.
The victim student told Hill Voice, ‘I went to bring lemons with open mind as Md. Abdur Rahim was the headmaster of my former school. At that time, suddenly he grabbed my hand and took me to the college hostel and then raped me. Now I want the punishment of Md. Abdur Rahim and dismiss him from the post of headmaster.
To know about the matter, when tried to contact with Mangal Kanti Chakma, chairman of Atarkachhara UP No. 1 and chairman of the school management committee, he did not receive the call.
Syed Mohammad Noor, officer-in-charge (OC) of Longadu Police Station said that he had heard of the rape but the police have not yet been informed. If written complaint is received, disciplinary action will be taken against the culprit after investigation.
The victim’s father Bindu Chakma said that he could not file a case due to lack of money. However, they will file a case against Md. Abdur Rahim as soon as possible. He wants punishment of the accused Md. Abdur Rahim. He told about a plan to lodge a written complaint to the UNO along with a case if the chairman fails to give fair justice.
