Hill Voice, 21 October 2020, Rangamati: Two youths were arrested by Chandraghona police for allegedly trying to rape a 19 year-old indigenous Marma college student in a moving vehicle coming from Rangamati’s Rajasthali to Kaptai. The arrested are- Md. Shahin (22) and Shawkat Hossain (26). They are both CNG drivers. They were arrested from Raikhali area of Kaptai upazila of Rangamati hill district at 9:45 pm on Tuesday (October 20).
According to the local sources, yesterday at 12.30 pm, the two accused tried to rape the girl forcibly when the CNG arrived on the CO Side road of Raikhali Road while they were going from Bangalhalia CNG stand to Raikhali of Kaptai upazila by CNG. The victim jumped out of the moving vehicle when she sensed the danger. She sustained injuries to her left eye, in front of her ears, on the top of her left back and on her knees, and got on a bus coming from the opposite direction to protect her dignity.
Later, the two drivers quickly fled the scene.
The victim college girl complained to the locals of Bangalhalia and Bangalhalia army camp. Later, Chandraghona police arrested the accused persons at 9.45 pm with the help of Raikhali-Bangalhalia CNG Owners Association and local people’s representatives.
Arrested CNG driver Md. Shahin’s house is in Kodala area of Rangunia and he is son of late Abu Bakkor Siddique. Another arrested CNG driver Shawkat Hossain is son of Akbar Hossain at Sondhip village of Rangunia.
OC of Chandraguna Police station Iqbal Bahar said, the victim herself being the plaintiff has filed a case against Md. Shahin and Shawkat Hossain under Section 9 (4) (kha) / 30 of the Women and Child Abuse Suppression Act. They were sent to Rangamati court on Wednesday morning.
