Hill Voice, 10 September 2020, Dinajpur: It is alleged that land of an indigenous Santal has been tried to occupy in Parbatipur of Dinajpur district. The incident took place on 4 September 2020 Friday at 4:00 am.
Md. Mahabur Rahman, son of late Abdul Jabbar of the same village, tried to seize the land owned by Niren Mardi of Bara Chandipur (Barkona) village of the upazila by force. Indigenous Niren Mardi has lodged a complaint with Parbatipur Model Police Station on the same day.
According to the sources, on Friday at around 4 am, Md. Mahabur Rahman of the same village tried to irrigate the aman paddy planted in the land which is being cultivated by Niren Mardi’s forefathers. At this time, while the indigenous villagers tried to oppose, the altercation has been occurred. They later fled leaving the shallow machine they had brought with them and threatened to take a look.
It is learnt that at total of 0.75 acres of land comprising 0.60 acres of land JL No. 44 in Khatian 699 of 2059 and 0.15 acres of land in 2062 of Khatian 876 of Bara Chandipur mouza of Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district have been occupied by Niren Mardi since time of his forefathers. But some time ago, Md. Mahabur Rahman tried to take possession by claiming that he had taken a lease.
Earlier, Niren Mardi is still awaiting hearing in the wake of an application submitted to Assistant Commissioner (Land) to cancel the land lease against land grabber Mahabur Rahman.
