Hill Voice, 2 September 2020, Dinajpur : An indigenous Santal girl with speech impairment has been allegedly raped in Nawabganj Upazila Palli of Dinajpur district. The incident took place in the village of the upazila on 31 August 2020 Monday at around 3:30 pm.
According to family sources, the victim’s mother left the speech-impaired girl alone at home on Monday morning and went to the Fulbari village of the Upazila for treatment of her eldest daughter. At around 3.30 pm, a young man named Shamim Hossain found the speechless girl alone and raped her in an abandoned house nearby. The rapist fled the scene while neighbours came to rescue the victim after hearing her shouts.
Meanwhile, the girl’s mother has filed a case against the youth with Nawabganj Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Police raided the house on Tuesday morning and arrested the accused Shamim Hossain. The detainee was identified as Shamim Hossain, son of Shambhu Hossain of Pulbandha village in the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Ashok Kumar Chouhan said the accused youth was arrested in connection with the case after a case was filed against him for raping a speech-impaired girl. He has been sent to Dinajpur Jail.
