Hill Voice, 15 July 2020, Rangamati: The two Jumma people were allegedly picked up by intelligence forces and army personnel from two different locations in the Rangamati Hill District town.
Ujjwal Chakma, 40, of KK Roy Road in Rangamati town area and Roman Kanti Talukder alias Nikhil (58) were picked up from their house at Montala Adam in Vedvedi area of the town.
According to local sources, on 14 July 2020 at around 1.30 pm Ujjwal Chakma was picked up by some members of the military intelligence DGFI from in front of the LIC Insurance Office on Rajbari Road in North Kalindipur of the town.
On the other hand, at around 12:00 on the same day, a group of Bangladesh army apprehended Roman Kanti Talukder alias Nikhil waking up him from his house at Montala Adam in Vedvedi area of the town.
As of this writing, Ujjwal Chakma and Roman Kanti Talukder alias Nikhil have not been released and have not been handed over to the police or court as per law.
It is learnt that Ujjwal Chakma and Roman Kanti Talukder alias Nikhil are still in the custody of DGFI and army respectively.
Such arbitrary and unlawful detentions, arrests and harassment by army and intelligence personnel have caused great concern, frustration and anger among the people of the town.
Ujjwal Chakma was once the president of KK Roy Road Village Committee of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti(PCJSS). He is currently working in an insurance company called LIC.
On the other hand, Roman Kanti Talukder alias Nikhil is a returnee member of PCJSS who has returned to normal life as per the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord of 1997. Roman Kanti Talukder alias Nikhil Nikhil is currently politically inactive.
