Hill Voice, 15 July 2020, Khagrachari: There is acute crisis of drinking water in remote areas of Sindukchhari union in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari district. As there is no tube well or clean water system, the villagers have to depend on natural streams, jhiri and well water.
More than 500 families live in a few villages in Sindukchhari union in Guimara upazila. The people of these villages have to pass the whole year in crisis of pure water. For drinking water, they have to rely on natural streams, jhiri and well water.
By drinking these unclean waters, the villagers are getting infected with various water borne diseases throughout the year. Like this union, there is a problem of drinking water in the remote areas of the whole Guimara upazila.
Redak Marma, Chairman of Sindukchhari Union Parishad in Guimara Upazila, said tube-wells would be installed in remote areas of Sindukchhari Union where it is possible.
However, it is not possible to set up tube-wells in Murapara of Ward No. 1 and Punkhimura of Ward No. 3 of Sindukchhari Union. Because there are rocks under the ground, the problem of pure water is acute there. He hopes that the water problem in these remote areas will be solved very soon.
