Hill Voice, 15 July 2020, Mymensingh: An indigenous Garo woman from Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh district has been accused of forcibly picking her up and raped her for detaining six days.
On 14 July 2020 Tuesday night the victim has filed a case against Ujjwal, 38, son of Rabiulla Akand of Hatileit village in Rangamatia union of Fulbaria upazila.
The victim, a Mandi woman, said her husband was living abroad. From there he would send money for his wife to the well-known Ujjwal’s Bkash shop in the Babul Bazar area. Later, the woman used to bring the money from Ujjwal’s shop.
One day shopkeeper Ujjwal made an immoral offer to her but when she did not agree, Ujjwal threatened to kill her two children and withheld the Tk. 1.5 lakh sent by her husband.
At one stage, she talked to her husband and rented a house in Kathali area of Bhaluka on 12 June 2020. On the morning of 2 July 2020, Ujjwal called her on the phone to come at Bhaluka Mollikbari junction saying that he would hand over money.
While she reached, then she was picked up by Ujjwal in a CNG-powered autorickshaw and raped her detaining at a woman’s house in Nandanpur of Gopalpur.
On 8 July 2020, Ujjwal left her in the forest of Madhupur. Later the victim went to Phulbaria getting out from the jungle. But the people of Ujjwal forcibly sent he tro Bhaluka.
Bhaluka Model Police Station OC Mohammad Main Uddin said efforts were being made to arrest the accused. The victim was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for medical examination on Wednesday.
