Hill Voice, 19 August 2019, Dhaka: Three locals have been accused of committing gang rape of an indigenous woman in a house by stabbing her husband in Ashulia, Dhaka. Ashulia police sub-inspector (SI) Fazikul said, one of the accused, Roni, was arrested on Saturday night (August 15th) in connection of the incident. The remaining two accused – Joy and Shamim – are absconding.
It is reported that the incident took place on Tuesday (August 13th) at the newly rented house of victim in new para mahalla in Dendabar area. The victim filed a case at Ashulia police station on 18 August morning. According to police and the family of the victim, the woman occasionally makes local brewing liquor at home to drink.
After knowing the liquor brewing matter, three locals went to their house on the night of August 13th and demanded money. At one point, they seized 10,000 takas in cash and a gold chain. Then they again demanded 2 lacks taka. The moment the couple refused to pay the money, they had beaten the women’s husband and locked him in a room nearby and then, the women was gang raped. Ashulia police sub-inspector (SI) Fazikul said, “A youth named Roni has been arrested on rape charges. The operation is underway to arrest the rest of the people involved in the incident.”
