Hill Voice, July 16, 2025, Rangamati: It has been reported that at around 11 AM on July 15, a verbal altercation between the members of the Mog Party and army personnel turned into a clash at the Bangalhalia Bazaar premises in the Bangalhalia Union of Rajasthali Upazila, Rangamati District. As a result, two army personnel were severely injured after being beaten by the members of the Mog Party.
The injured soldiers are: (1) Mohammad Nasir Uddin, 5 E Bengal, Bandarban Sadar Zone, and (2) Mohammad Azmat Hossain, G 2 I Assistant Officer (Warrant Officer rank).
It is reported that the clash between the members of the Mog Party and army personnel took place at the Mog Party’s extortion collection point at Bangalhalia Bazaar. It is suspected that the conflict arose due to issues related to extortion collection and the sharing of money between the two parties.
According to local sources, in the morning of the previous day, Warrant Officer Mohammad Azmat Hossain from the 69th Bandarban Brigade office of the Bangladesh Army and sepoy Mohammad Nasir Uddin from the 5 E Bengal, Bandarban Sadar Army Zone, went to Bangalhalia in Rajasthali Upazila for an investigation. At one point, around 11 AM, they arrived at the Mog Party’s extortion collection point at Bangalhalia Bazaar premises.
At one point, the army personnel got into an argument with several members of the Mog Party who were stationed at the extortion collection point. This eventually led to a physical altercation between both parties. During the clash, the members of the Mog Party beat the two soldiers. Sepoy Mohammad Nasir Uddin, injured in the incident, fled and later admitted to the hospital. On the other hand, Warrant Officer Mohammad Azmat Hossain was taken by the Mog Party members to their camp and was later sent to the Bangalhalia Army camp.
Later, upon receiving the news of the assault on the two soldiers, a group of army, led by Major Sabbir, went to Bangalhalia in four vehicles from the Bandarban Army Zone. Upon hearing of the army group’s arrival from Bandarban, the members of the Mog Party fled the area. As of the time this report was written, no further details regarding the incident were available.
A source has revealed that there has been a long-standing relationship between Pranto Ghosh Roni, a settler Bengali youth responsible for the administrative duties of the Mog Party in the Bangalhalia area, and Major Mohammad Parvez of the Bandarban Brigade’s G 2.
Previously, on April 1, a report by Hill Voice stated that in Rajasthali, at least 12 to 15 identified Bengali settlers-including Shafiqul Islam, Saidul, Belal, and Pranto Ghosh Roni-have been accused of splitting into groups and forcibly collecting extortion from locals. Posing as representatives and collectors for the Mog Party, they allegedly assaulted and threatened several individuals while demanding money.
It is noteworthy that the Mog Party was originally created by leaders of the then-ruling political party—including Bir Bahadur, Member of Parliament for Bandarban Constituency 300; Kyaw Shwe Hla, Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council; Dipankar Talukder, MP for Rangamati; and Aung Swe Prue Chowdhury, Chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council-with the aim of obstructing the implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord and undermining the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanmhati Samiti (PCJSS). Since then, the Mog Party, reportedly being backed by the military, has been involved in extortion, killings of JSS members and civilians, threatening and various other terrorist activities.
